Geek of the Week: Leslie

Name: Leslie

Job Title: Lead Web Designer, Creative Captain

Grandma Edition Job Title: I lead a team of incredibly talented, intelligent and hilarious Designers, Developers, and UX Experts. They do all of the hard work and make me look good–by crafting the most beautiful, user-friendly and engaging websites!

With Graydient Since: August 2013

Leslie graduated from Waukesha County Technical College with an Associate degree in Web and Digital Media Design as well as a degree in Graphic Design. She continues her education through various conferences and webinars such as SXSW – Interactive, SmashingConf San Francisco, Designing the Next Generation Hotel Website – Webinar, and more. She loves gnomes and has quite an extensive collection, and her future dream dog’s name is Beans (he’ll be large and fluffy and have a tiny sidekick named Pork). Leslie is the go-to-gal for all things web and user interface design, front-end development, and quality assurance.

Fun Fact: Can rarely sit through an entire movie because of a severe case of movie narcolepsy

Team says:

“Leslie is a fantastic leader, who always pushes her team to grow, develop, and learn! Also, I’ve heard she loves turtles!” – Josh Brown, Front End Developer

“Leslie’s ability to contribute to projects on design and development is very important to our success. She is able to provide constructive feedback to two “departments,” and that helps with our efficiency as a team. She is very willing to give feedback and is equally willing to accept feedback and use it to make her, and her team’s work, better.” – Chaz Rzeplinski, Digital Project Manager

“Leslie is an amazing asset to our team. She contributes so much, as a leader, teacher, designer, front-end developer, and friend. Her skill set and talent is remarkable! She is someone that I look up to and can always count on.” – Sami Weber-Schrank, Web Designer

“Leslie is a natural born leader. She is thoughtful and kind and caring and always leads her team, we well as others, by example. She enjoys teaching and mentoring others and seeing them grow. It’s been a real pleasure for me to see her grow and refine her people management skills over the past year and to see the team grow to love and respect her even more.

Leslie not only had the highest admiration from her team for her guidance and contributions, but also from her very own insane design and front-end development skills. She was able to really define a GRAYT brand for our company with Sami, even being the one to first suggest the name! Leslie has helped define our company’s style of websites from design elements to finding and implementing to best interactive widgets for the website users.

Leslie is someone who inspires and encourages thought leadership, innovation and collaboration among her team. Her team is able to pull off some very challenging requests or projects from assisting the mobile apps team with usability and design, creating their own brand of template’d (or fully custom) websites to tailor ALL budget types, to even developing some really cool interactive large-scale digital touch screens or video animations at many of our clients’ establishments.

None of these projects would be as successful as they are without Leslie’s finesse and focus on all the details behind the scenes. Gathering client requirements, researching ideas, organizing her team and offering direction, establishing new techniques with every project and ensuring quality assurance on anything she approves to go out the door. If Leslie is involved it’ll be sure to win an award!” – Shawn Spartz, Director of Creative & Development
